Janmashtami, a Hindu festival celebrating the birth (birth) of Lord Krishna on the eighth (Ashtami) day of the dark fortnight of the month of Bhadrapada (August–September).
This festival is celebrated especially in Mathura and Vrindavan, where Krishna spent his childhood and early youth.
On the occasion of Janmashtami, the enticing avatar of Shri Krishna is displayed through the tableaux. Temples are decorated, and many people also observe a fast on this day.
On the day of Janmashtami, the child form of Shri Krishna is swinging in temples. Janmashtami is celebrated with great enthusiasm in the city of Mathura, the birthplace of Shri Krishna.
Not only India but Indians living in other countries and followers of Krishna also celebrate Janmashtami with full faith and gaiety.
The birth celebration of Lord Krishna is celebrated at 12 midnight. After birth, the idol of Laddu Gopal is bathed with milk and adorned with new clothes and ornaments.
After the worship of Lord Krishna, Prasad is distributed by offering Charanamrit, Panjiri, fresh fruits, Panchameva, etc.
A competition of robbing Dahi Handi is held in the street and people play the game of looting butter in groups.
